In this new trailer from Valve, they hint at a new weapon in Halflife 2:Episode 2 called Portal. You have to see it to believe it!
Maybe I am late to this party, but I just played a bit of an impressive first person shooter that was written to fit into 96 kilobytes. No frills like changing keymapping or anything, but the graphics are incredibly impressive for 96 KB. Its worth a look here.
In this interesting interview of Albert Penello (of Microsoft), he is asked questions about backwards compatibility on the XBox 360, specially why some games are on the compatibilty list and others are not. In one very interesting comment, he mentions that it is not just the most popular games that are included, but games that use similar technology as popular games are included as they are low hanging fruit:
"The reason you're seeing certain games become available that aren't necessarily the most popular titles is because they share common features with other games we're working on. When we solve emulation issues for a game, it can unlock similar issues for other games. To give one popular example, Barbie Horse Adventures runs on the Xbox 360 because it uses technology similar to that of the Grand Theft Auto series. When we see a game start to work "for free," we release it. It's not our place to withhold titles that work simply because they weren't best-sellers."
I was flabergasted when I saw this
article on GameSpot indicating that 3D Realms says they don't want to 'rush' a game that's been in development since 1997. I can't imagine it will ever meet expectations. They have to have changed engines a 1/2 a dozen times since they started on it. Just Wow.
I found this
Behind the Scenes video of the Halo 3 trailer very interesting. Worth a look. From the video it looks like the trailer used the real rendering engine. Wow.
Back a year or so ago, I was hearing about how Vista was going to make gaming on the PC as friendly as it is on a console. Put the disk in and grab a joystick. What happened? I was trolling (sp?) the Vista website and the gaming features are now "Parental Controls" and a "My Gaming" area. Huh?
I think Vista needs some of the 360 team to sit in on some meetings.
The XBox 360 Dashboard update finally arrived this morning and so far, I am impressed. A quick rundown of the things I like:
- Download Queue to pick up to 6 downloads to download as the console finds itself online. (Btw, it will pause downloading if you go online with a game).
- Boot to Dashbaord instead of Game.
- New Harddrive manager makes is ever so easy to delete unwanted files.
- New Marketplace makes it much easier to find downloads you actually want.
+1
If any of you played D&D as a kid like I did you might be offended by this video on Google Video. I found it funny. Sorta like "Trekers" but for the D&D set. I am not convinced that this isn't fiction...
A must see.
